Whose Home?
(VELS Level 3 - 4, Habitats)
Students investigate how a diverse range of aquatic animals, including penguins, sharks and turtles use various structural features to fulfil their survival needs within their habitat. They also learn about human impacts on these aquatic worlds, with a focus on sustainability and conservation best-practice.

Watery Webs
(VELS Level 4 - 5, Food Webs)
The food webs of Australia’s oceans are closely examined. After observing species from one-metre tall penguins through to three-metre long Grey Nurse Sharks, students discuss adaptations and the relationships between animals within different ecosystems.

Smart Waterways                        
(VELS Level 4 - 5, Water Conservation)
Highlighting Melbourne Aquarium’s animals and also including a rare back-of-house tour, students discover the impact of human habitation on fresh and salt water systems. Particular reference to factors such as water conservation, pollution, salination and the disposal of nutrient-rich waste and their effects on animal populations are included.

Penguin’s Playground (NEW PROGRAM)
(VELS Level 5 - 6, Geography)
Students learn about the animals and features of Australia’s aquatic environments and those of its surrounding regions, including South-East Asia, the Southern Pacific and Antarctica. Animals such as Sharks, Penguins and Corals are highlighted within this program linking adaptations to the animals’ environment.

On Thin Ice (NEW PROGRAM)
(VELS Level 5 - 6, Conservation)
This program focuses on the threats to aquatic ecosystems and the animals that live within them. The potential effects of climate change on environments, ranging from tropical coral reefs to the icy wastes of Antarctica are discussed. The program also explores human impacts such as overfishing, pollution and introduced species.

General Program
This fun, flexible and relaxed program gives students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Aquarium’s diverse worlds. Participants can enjoy a variety of aquarium presentations from Meet the Keeper presentations to Dive Feeds. Furthermore, the Tailored General Program can cater for specific concepts and content to be covered.


Self-guided Journey
Teachers may elect to tour Melbourne Aquarium at their own pace focusing on areas of their choice. Be amazed at the abundance of aquatic species and the unique environments on display with the freedom and flexibility to self-pace with your students. This popular program allows you to choose as much free time as you need in any of the Aquarium’s worlds during your two hour underwater journey.
